HPE staff members visit higher institutions in Guangzhou to promote exchange

In response to the Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, a team of staff from the Department of Health and Physical Education (HPE) participated in the GBA Academic Visioning Exchange between 13 and 15 June in Guangzhou, the provincial capital of Guangdong.

Led by Dr Andy Tse Choi-yeung, Acting Head of HPE, the visits aimed to foster innovation and collaboration with Guangzhou Sport University and South China Normal University, by creating more opportunities for research projects, student exchange programmes and other inter-university activities.

Dr Tse said, “While South China Normal University boasts a long history of providing teacher education, Guangzhou Sport University is a well-known stronghold for training sports professionals and conducting sports-related research. HPE is delighted to have the opportunity to exchange thoughts and experiences with administrative and academic staff from the two institutions.”

According to the outline development plan for the Greater Bay Area, higher institutions in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao are encouraged to explore academic cooperation and exchanges. The plan also encourages student exchanges and joint research endeavours among institutions from these three places.

“The Greater Bay Area has a very prosperous economy. The rising standard of living in the GBA means that sports and healthcare has gradually become a significant part of people’s lives in the area. In view of the rising need for sports and healthcare among the GBA population, HPE is particularly interested in promoting joint research projects in the areas of sports and health science with higher institutions in the region. This is also in line with the strategic targets set out in the outline development plan. We look forward to closer cooperation between HPE and other institutions in the Greater Bay Area in the years to come,” Dr Tse said.
